Karnataka NEET UG 2025 Round 3 Counselling Revoked by HC

The Karnataka High Court has revoked the round 3 seat allotment for NEET UG 2025 Counselling, directing the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) to conduct the process afresh. The decision impacts the remaining 900 MBBS and BDS seats for the 2025–26 academic session, which had been in limbo for over 40 days following the previous round’s completion. KEA had published the original round 3 seat allotment on October 24, 2025, which was subsequently challenged in court. A special bench of three judges found discrepancies in the allotment process, stating that candidates with higher NEET scores were unfairly assigned lower-preference seats compared to those with lower scores.

Court Observations and Reason for Revocation

The Karnataka High Court highlighted a procedural flaw in KEA’s handling of vacant seats during round 3. Specifically:

  • Only new applicants were considered for seats that became vacant after the first stage of the third round.
  • Candidates who had already participated were disadvantaged, despite having higher NEET scores.
  • The court emphasized fairness in seat allocation, requiring KEA to reconsider both new and existing applicants for all vacant seats.

This decision ensures that merit-based allocation is strictly followed, preventing any candidate from being unfairly bypassed in the counselling process.

Next Steps for Candidates

KEA is expected to release the fresh round 3 counselling schedule shortly on its official portal cetonline.karnataka.gov.in. Candidates who were part of the earlier allotment will need to participate again to secure seats based on the revised process.

Key Instructions for Aspirants:

  • Regularly check the official KEA website for notifications regarding new dates.
  • Keep NEET UG 2025 scorecards and relevant documents ready for verification.
  • Stay alert for official instructions on choice filling and seat allotment to avoid missing deadlines.

Implications for Medical and Dental Admissions

This decision affects approximately 900 MBBS and BDS seats across Karnataka. The revocation may delay the commencement of academic sessions slightly but is aimed at ensuring transparent and merit-based seat distribution. Education experts note that while the delay may create temporary uncertainty for aspirants, the HC’s directive is crucial for fairness in medical and dental admissions. Students with higher NEET scores now have a better chance of obtaining seats corresponding to their merit, ensuring equitable opportunities. Candidates must remain vigilant and proactive as KEA releases the new round 3 counselling dates. Following official guidelines will be critical to secure admission in top medical and dental colleges across Karnataka.
