Meghalaya Board Adopts NCERT Syllabus for Class 10 from 2026

The Meghalaya Board of School Education has officially announced the implementation of the NCERT curriculum for Class 10 starting from the 2026 academic session. As per the board’s notification, NCERT Meghalaya Edition textbooks will now be used for all subjects under the Secondary School Curriculum. The decision aligns the state board with the National Curriculum Framework to ensure uniform academic standards. The move follows the successful adoption of NCERT textbooks at the Lower Primary and Upper Primary levels, with Class 10 now included for complete academic continuity.

Subjects Covered Under New Meghalaya NCERT Curriculum 2026

The updated academic framework will apply to all schools affiliated with the Meghalaya Board. The transition covers core academic subjects that play a critical role in board examinations and higher education preparation. Before schools implement the revised structure, it is important to understand which subjects fall under the new NCERT-based syllabus. The coverage ensures uniform learning outcomes and assessment standards across all institutions. The following Class 10 subjects will follow NCERT textbooks from 2026:

  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Social Science
  • English
  • Additional subjects as prescribed by the board

All previously prescribed state board textbooks for these subjects will be discontinued.

The updated syllabus has already been approved at the board level and circulated to school authorities. Before reviewing the expected academic timeline, it is important to note that the revised framework will also be applicable to the 2026 board examinations, making it mandatory for all students appearing in the upcoming cycle.

The new framework emphasizes competency-based learning, conceptual clarity, and analytical assessment. Key academic shifts under the revised syllabus include:

  • Alignment with national-level learning outcomes
  • Greater focus on application-based questions
  • Revised internal assessment structure
  • Standardized evaluation criteria across schools

This change is expected to enhance student preparedness for central-level competitive examinations and higher secondary education.

What Schools and Students Need to Do Next?

All MBOSE-affiliated schools have been instructed to update their teaching plans, procure the new NCERT textbooks, and orient faculty members with the revised curriculum structure. Students preparing for Class 10 from the 2026 session must strictly follow the updated syllabus for all subjects.
