J&K Govt Approves 15% Syllabus Concession for Summer Zone Board Exams 2026

The Jammu & Kashmir government has approved a 15 % syllabus concession for Class 10, 11 and 12 students of the Summer Zone appearing in the 2026 annual board examinations. This concession responds to academic disruptions caused by prolonged inclement weather, flood-like conditions and other challenges in the previous academic session. Board exams are scheduled to begin from 17 February 2026 (Class 10), 23 February (Class 12) and 28 February (Class 11), and students should prepare based on the revised syllabus scope.
The Jammu & Kashmir government has approved a 15 % syllabus concession for students in the Summer Zone of Jammu Division who are set to appear in the Class 10, Class 11 and Class 12 annual regular board examinations 2026. This academic relief measure is aimed at offsetting the impact of significant disruptions to the teaching-learning process during the past session due to prolonged inclement weather, flood-like situations and related challenges. Officials said the decision ensures that students in the affected Summer Zone are not placed at a disadvantage compared to peers from other zones and can compete on an equitable footing in the forthcoming exams
What the Syllabus Concession Means for Students?
Under the concession, students appearing for the 2026 board exams will be required to prepare for 85 % of the prescribed syllabus for their respective classes. The remaining 15 % of the syllabus will be considered exempt for evaluation purposes, even though question papers may be framed from the full curriculum with internally balanced choices. This approach is similar to the 15 % syllabus relaxation previously granted for board examinations in 2025 under similar disruption-related circumstances.
Reason Behind the Government Decision
The government’s decision comes after recognising that the academic calendar was adversely affected by prolonged adverse weather and other challenges, which had limited classroom instruction time for many schools in the region. Authorities termed the syllabus concession an important step to maintain academic parity and reduce stress among students facing these unique difficulties.
Board Exam Schedule 2026 (Tentative)
According to available schedules, the JKBOSE annual board exams 2026 will be conducted as follows:
- Class 10 exams are scheduled to begin from 17 February 2026.
- Class 12 exams will commence from 23 February 2026.
- Class 11 exams are scheduled from 28 February 2026
Students from the Summer Zone should plan revision and preparation strategies in line with the 85 % syllabus scope while keeping official JKBOSE notifications and circulars in view for subject-wise details.
