The JEE Main 2026 Shift 2 exam on 21 January is scheduled from 3 pm to 6 pm after the conclusion of the morning Shift 1. Candidates should follow reporting times, entry protocols and can expect a continuation of moderate difficulty levels based on early feedback from shift 1. Shift 2 timing details and analysis insights help aspirants maximise readiness before taking the afternoon session.

JEE Main 2026 Shift 2 Timing & Analysis: What to Expect After Shift 1

After the conclusion of JEE Main 2026 January 21 Shift 1, where students reported a moderate and balanced question paper, candidates appearing for the Shift 2 afternoon session have a clear schedule and expected trends to prepare for before entering the examination halls.

Shift 2 Timings and Reporting Guidelines

For the afternoon shift of JEE Main 2026, the timings and centre entry protocols are as follows:

Candidates must arrive well ahead of the entry cut‑off time of 2:30 pm to complete biometric verification and security checks. Entry is strictly prohibited after gates close under any circumstances.

What Shift 1 Analysis Suggests?

Early feedback and exam reviews from the morning session indicated that the paper was largely moderate in difficulty with a balanced mix of conceptual and application‑based questions across subjects. Trends reported include:

  • Mathematics is often seen as time‑consuming and requiring careful calculation.
  • Physics and Chemistry maintained conceptual clarity with manageable question formats.
  • Moderate difficulty levels suggest that the shift 2 paper may follow a similar pattern unless there’s an unusual variance in questions.

How to Prepare Before Shift 2?

Given the time between shifts, candidates can benefit from:

  • Revisiting key formulae and standard concepts that appeared frequently in Shift 1.
  • Staying calm, hydrated and focused on time management strategies.
  • Checking all necessary documents, item restrictions and exam protocols well before reporting time.

Since JEE Main continues with two daily shifts throughout the Session 1 schedule — including exams on 21, 22, 23, 24 and 28 January 2026 — performance in afternoon shifts will also contribute to normalised scores under the standard evaluation process used by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
