Indian Student in Ireland Warns Against Studying Abroad on Education Loans

An Indian student based in Ireland has shared concerns about the challenges faced by international graduates, advising others to reconsider studying abroad on education loans. The account, posted on a public online forum, has triggered discussion among Indian students planning overseas education.

The student stated that he completed a Master’s degree in Computer Science at the University of Galway in 2025. According to his account, employment outcomes for international students have been limited, with only a small fraction of his graduating batch securing roles in the technology sector.

He also highlighted visa-related issues, noting that graduates who found technical roles reportedly did not receive employer-sponsored work visas. This has made long-term employment and settlement uncertain for many non-EU students.

The student further claimed that several graduates from previous batches were required to return to India after their visas expired, often while still repaying education loans. He attributed the situation partly to higher salary thresholds for visa sponsorship, which may discourage employers from hiring international graduates.

The post has drawn attention to broader concerns around rising study abroad costs, job market uncertainty, and visa policies. It has prompted renewed debate among Indian students and families about the financial risks associated with overseas education funded through loans.
