Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IIT Gandhinagar) has introduced three new six-month postgraduate diploma programmes, all fully residential and centered on cutting-edge technologies in generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), data science and cloud engineering. These programmes are being offered through the institute’s Competency Development Foundation in collaboration with Futurense Technologies. Each course aims to deliver more than 600 hours of intensive, bootcamp-style learning, equating to roughly two years of industry experience for participants.
Programme Details & Start Date
The new diplomas include:
- PG Diploma in AI & Agentic AI Engineering
- PG Diploma in GenAI & Data Science Engineering
- PG Diploma in AI-Powered Software Engineering with Cloud
Admissions will commence for the February 2026 batch. Each programme restricts intake to 60 students, selected via the All India National Proficiency Test (AINPT) followed by a multi-stage interview process. Students will reside on IIT Gandhinagar’s sprawling 400-acre eco-campus and will benefit from mentorship by IIT faculty as well as industry leaders from global tech firms.
Curriculum, Format & Learning Approach
Each diploma follows a “Build, Deploy, Scale” model — emphasising hands-on engineering, applied projects, competitive coding and production-grade solution development. According to IITGN director Rajat Moona, this reflects the institute’s mission to forge “professionals who do not just learn technology but apply and create with it”. The structure is heavily project-based: roughly 70 % of time is devoted to immersive project work and 30 % to faculty-led learning, enabling participants to graduate at a level comparable to two years of workplace experience.
Placement Support & Student Experience
Graduates of these programmes will receive 100 % placement support, subject to meeting programme performance benchmarks. They will also gain Executive Alumni status at IIT Gandhinagar, enabling access to its global professional network. On-campus experience includes state-of-the-art labs, an AI Clinic, Ideas Lab, product-deconstruction workshops and mentorship from CXOs and CTOs via Futurense’s ecosystem.
Strategic Significance & India’s Digital Talent Imperative
With India’s digital economy expanding rapidly, the launch of these GenAI-powered residential programmes addresses a pressing demand for engineers who can build and deploy advanced systems. IITGN’s initiative is thus timely in strengthening India’s tech talent pipeline. By focusing on immersive residential formats rather than purely online delivery, these programmes underscore a belief that compact, intensive training paired with rich campus ecosystems can accelerate readiness for industry roles in emerging tech.
