The Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBOSE) has announced the Annual Examination Schedule 2026 along with significant reforms in the exam pattern for Class 10 and Class 12 students. The board exams for both regular candidates and Himachal Pradesh State Open School (HPSOS) students will commence simultaneously from March 3, 2026. The announcement was made by HPBOSE Chairman Dr Rajesh Sharma during a press briefing in Dharamshala. The reforms are aimed at improving fairness, transparency, and alignment with national-level competitive examinations.
Uniform Question Papers Across All Series
One of the most notable changes is the removal of variation between question paper series.
- All question papers will now have identical content
- Only the order of questions will be shuffled
- No difference in difficulty across Series A, B, or C
According to the board, this move addresses long-standing concerns over unequal difficulty levels and is expected to strengthen the credibility of results and merit lists.
20% MCQs Introduced in All Subjects
To align school examinations with the National Education Policy (NEP) and competitive exams like JEE and NEET, HPBOSE has introduced:
- 20 percent Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) in all subjects
- Greater focus on concept-based assessment
To help students adapt, the board has already uploaded model question papers and a detailed question bank on the official website.
HP Board Result 2026 Likely by April 30
HPBOSE has set an ambitious target to declare results early.
- Result declaration target: April 30, 2026
- Special evaluation centres to be set up
- Evaluation process to be conducted on priority
Early results will help students avoid delays in college admissions and national counselling processes.
Strict Surveillance and Anti-Cheating Measures
To ensure fair examinations:
- All exam centres will be covered under centralised CCTV surveillance
- Monitoring will be done directly from HPBOSE headquarters in Dharamshala
- Flying squads will inspect sensitive and highly sensitive centres
The board has warned that centres involved in mass copying or serious irregularities may face exam cancellation and disciplinary action against staff.
Practical Exams and Admit Cards
- Practical exams: February 20 to February 28, 2026
- Admit cards and roll numbers: To be released online shortly
- Students must report to centres at least 30 minutes early
HPBOSE Chairman’s Message to Students
Dr Rajesh Sharma appealed to students, parents, and teachers to support the reforms and ensure a disciplined exam environment. He emphasised that the 2026 board exams should reflect integrity, transparency, and fairness.
