Himachal Board Exam Reforms 2026: Class 10 & 12 Exams From March 3

The Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBOSE) has announced significant reforms for the 2026 Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations, aimed at improving fairness and transparency across the state’s annual assessments. The board exams will begin on 03 March 2026, with results expected to be declared by 30 April 2026.

Major Changes in HPBOSE 2026 Exam Pattern

During a press briefing, HPBOSE Chairman Dr. Rajesh Sharma highlighted a series of reforms intended to standardise the examination experience for all students across the state.

1. Identical Question Papers Across All Series

For the first time, all question paper series — Series A, B and C — will contain the same questions. The only difference between the series will be the order of questions, eliminating variations in difficulty between different sets and ensuring a level playing field for all candidates.

2. Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs) Introduced

Under the revised pattern, 20 per cent of the total marks in each paper will be based on multiple-choice questions (MCQs). This change is aligned with the aims of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 to incorporate diverse assessment formats and prepare students for competitive exams.

HPBOSE Exam Schedule and Evaluation Plan

The board examinations for Classes 10 and 12 will start simultaneously on 03 March 2026 for both regular and state open school students. Practical exams are scheduled between 20 February and 28 February 2026. The board has announced an ambitious plan to complete exam evaluations rapidly and declare the results by 30 April 2026. Special centres will be established to expedite the evaluation process, and evaluations will be monitored centrally to ensure efficiency.

HPBOSE Exam Integrity and Monitoring

To uphold the integrity of the board exams, HPBOSE will implement stringent monitoring measures, including:

  • CCTV surveillance at all examination centres
  • Deployment of flying squads at sensitive and hyper-sensitive locations
  • Online provision of model question papers and a question bank to help students familiarise themselves with the new format in advance

What Students Should Know?

  • Practical exams: 20–28 February 2026
