GATE 2026 Qualifying Marks: Expected Cutoff & Trends

The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati is conducting GATE 2026, and candidates can expect the qualifying cutoff to be released along with the results on the official website — gate2026.iitg.ac.in. Based on previous years’ trends and expert analysis, the expected GATE 2026 qualifying marks may fall within the following ranges:

  • General (UR): 28 – 37 marks
  • OBC-NCL/EWS: 26 – 28.3 marks
  • SC/ST/PwD: 27 – 31 marks

The actual cutoff will vary across all 30 test papers depending on difficulty level, number of candidates appeared, and overall performance.

GATE Marks vs Rank Analysis (Based on Trends)

Candidates aiming for top IIT admissions may require a GATE score of 700–800, while competitive branches may demand scores above 900. For PSU recruitment, a GATE score between 700 and 900+ (approximately 75+ marks) is generally considered competitive, depending on the organisation and discipline.

Qualifying Cutoff vs Admission Cutoff

  • Qualifying Cutoff: Minimum marks required to pass GATE and become eligible for counselling (announced by the conducting IIT).
  • Admission Cutoff: Opening and closing ranks released by participating institutes such as IITs and NITs through COAP/CCMT portals.

Meeting the qualifying cutoff does not guarantee admission.

Do GATE Qualifying Marks Change Every Year?

Yes. The minimum qualifying marks vary annually due to:

  • Difficulty level of the question paper
  • Number of candidates appearing
  • Category-wise reservation norms
  • Previous year trends

The GATE 2026 scorecard will be available for free download from March 27 to May 31. After that, candidates can access it by paying a late fee until December 31, 2026. The GATE score remains valid for three years. Aspirants are advised to monitor the official portal for subject-wise qualifying marks and result announcements.
