With the CAT 2025 exam scheduled to take place in less than a few weeks, aspirants across the country are entering a critical phase of preparation. Education experts emphasise that this period is less about covering new material and more about refining strength, building routine and sustaining confidence. According to Prof. Siddharth Gaurav Majhi, Assistant Professor and Chairperson (Admissions) at IIM Sambalpur, the focus should now shift to disciplined preparation rather than fatigue-driven last-moment learning. “Consistency and calm focus define high performance at this stage,” he says.
Mock Tests, Routine & Accuracy: What Candidates Should Prioritise?
In the last days before CAT 2025, the strategy must centre on making the most of available time. Instead of adding new topics, candidates should:
- Match mock test timing with the actual exam slot, helping the body and mind adapt to the rhythm.
- Analyse mock test performance thoroughly to identify recurring mistakes, rather than increasing volume.
- Focus on maximising strength areas and minimise risk on weak areas—accuracy matters more than attempting more questions.
- Adjust sleep cycle, stay hydrated, and avoid heavy learning just before exam day to keep the mind fresh.
Section-Wise Focus Without Pressure
Although many candidates feel pressure to cram everything, experts caution against it. In fact, Parajumbles or new topics at this point may cause confusion rather than help. Prof. Kakoli Sen of IIM Sambalpur points out that the last weeks should prioritise quality over quantity. For example, in the Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC) section, 45–50 minutes may be devoted to RC if that is a student’s strong area, and only solve those Verbal questions where accuracy is assured. For Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR) and Quantitative Ability (QA), focus should be on speed, selection and minimising incorrect attempts.
Mindset, Health & Exam-Day Readiness
Mentors say the mental approach now matters more than reviewing last minute formulas. A relaxed mind handles pressure better and avoids “silly mistakes”, which can cost marks. Candidates are advised to map out exam day logistics, reach the centre early, avoid unfamiliar foods the morning of the test, and stay confident. The ability to manage time, make decisions under pressure and maintain composure often separates strong performers from the rest.
