Delhi University (DU) has initiated its On-Spot Mop-Up Admission Round 2025-26 for undergraduate programmes to fill thousands of seats that remain vacant after earlier CUET-based and mop-up rounds. Admissions in this round will be conducted based on Class XII marks, not CUET scores.
The registration window opens at 5:00 PM on September 17 and closes at 11:59 PM on September 19, 2025. Seat allotments will begin from September 23 onward. Eligible students must apply physically through the DU portal under the Mop-Up tab, or fresh registrants may use ugadmission.uod.ac.in. A one-time non-refundable fee of ₹1,000 is required.
Why This Round is Contentious
Several stakeholders, including students and faculty, have raised concerns about DU’s shift back to Class XII marks after earlier rounds used CUET-UG scores exclusively. Faculty members say using two different admission criteria in the same academic session raises fairness issues. Critics also point out that many students admitted in this spot round will miss a significant portion of classes; since the semester is already underway, newly admitted students may have just six to eight weeks of instruction before the break.
Who Can Apply in This Spot Mop-Up Round?
- Students who are not yet admitted to any DU programme.
- Students who did not appear for CUET-UG or those who failed to get a seat in earlier counselling rounds.
- Students must meet programme-specific eligibility criteria as per the DU UG Bulletin of Information 2025.
Applications from those already admitted to any DU programme are not eligible. Those registered earlier can update their profile and apply via the Mop-Up tab.
Key Dates & Important Instructions
Candidates must ensure their Class XII marks are correctly entered; any mismatch with official marksheets may lead to cancellation. They must also upload valid documents. Fees must be paid online immediately on allotment — failing which the seat will be cancelled and offered to the next eligible student. No upgrades or withdrawals allowed in this round. Reporting must be in physical mode.
Broader Implications
This shift has triggered debate over the consistency of DU’s admission criteria under its Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS). Faculty members argue that switching criteria (from CUET to Class XII marks) within the same admissions cycle undermines transparency and standardisation. In addition, there are concerns about academic loss, as students admitted this late may not receive the full benefit of the term.
