The Delhi University (DU) Semester VII examinations on Tuesday faced significant disruption as question papers for over 35 courses failed to reach examination centres on time. Students and faculty reported waiting for hours, with some exams starting as late as 1 pm instead of the scheduled 9:30 am. Faculty members noted that the delayed delivery caused serious challenges, particularly because classrooms were scheduled to host evening shift exams at 2:30 pm, leaving minimal buffer time to conduct exams efficiently. Courses such as Digital Image Processing and Compiler Design reportedly received papers only around 12:30 pm, adding to the confusion.
Factors Behind the DU Exam Disruption
The delay has been partly attributed to the National Education Policy (NEP)-driven Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP), which introduced additional semesters and expanded subject options. This has substantially increased the number of examinations and placed the system under stress. “The number of exams has gone up manifold. The system seems overstretched and close to collapse,” stated Professor Abha Dev Habib, highlighting the administrative burden. Faculty members also indicated that frequent revisions to FYUP guidelines may have contributed to lapses in paper logistics. Several question papers may not have been properly logged into the system, causing delays at multiple colleges. Senior professors emphasized that the examination department bears responsibility for ensuring timely delivery of question papers.
Impact on Students and Faculty
The disruption has directly affected students, many of whom had to sit in examination halls for several hours without starting their tests. Faculty and college administrators faced mounting pressure to manage the situation, especially as exam schedules overlapped with regular classes. Academic Council members have raised concerns that repeated NEP-based changes have created confusion and administrative challenges. While the FYUP is intended to provide flexibility and multiple exit options, the current implementation has led to uncertainty and logistical hurdles.
DU Exam Schedule Overview
The Semester VII exams commenced on December 10, 2025, and delays continued into subsequent days for multiple courses. Colleges are managing both regular students and School of Open Learning (SOL) candidates simultaneously, intensifying the scheduling challenges. Faculty and administration continue to work on resolving these disruptions while adhering to NEP requirements. Students are advised to stay updated with notifications from individual colleges regarding revised exam timings.
