The Bihar government has revised the operational timings of all government schools due to the intensifying cold wave across the state. The change affects primary, middle, secondary, and higher secondary schools, including Sanskrit and Urdu schools, aiming to balance academic routines with student safety during extreme weather conditions. Under the new schedule, classes will now begin at 9:30 am and conclude at 4 pm, with the day starting with a prayer session from 9:30 am to 10 am followed by regular academic periods.
Revised Timetable for Bihar Government Schools
The government’s revised timetable ensures students continue a structured day while avoiding the coldest hours of the morning. After the prayer session, students will attend eight academic periods, with a mid-day break of 40 minutes from 12 pm to 12:40 pm. The period-wise schedule is as follows:
This adjustment will allow students to attend classes safely while maintaining consistent academic progress despite the adverse weather conditions.
Winter School Closures in Other States
While Bihar has opted for revised timings, other states have announced extended school closures due to the cold wave:
- Uttar Pradesh: Schools will remain closed from December 20 to December 31, 2025, providing a 12-day winter break. Classes are expected to resume in January, with possible extensions if cold conditions persist.
- Jammu and Kashmir: Several schools have been closed till March due to cold, fog, and snowfall. Schools in the winter zone will stay closed from December 8 to 14, 2025, and pre-primary to Class 8 schools will remain shut for December and January. Classes for Classes 1 to 8 will resume in March, while Classes 9 to 12 will begin from February 23, 2026.
The move demonstrates Bihar’s focus on student safety and uninterrupted education amidst extreme weather, ensuring learning continues in a safer environment.
