Delhi Government Releases ₹108 Crore for 12 DU Colleges; ₹24 Crore

The Delhi government has released ₹108 crore as the third instalment of grants-in-aid to twelve Delhi University colleges that it fully funds. Additionally, an emergency allocation of ₹24 crore has been sanctioned to cover urgent requirements, including electricity, maintenance, and pending staff salaries. This financial support aims to ensure smooth functioning of the colleges, particularly in managing salary disbursements before Diwali.

Colleges Receiving Funds

The list of colleges benefiting from this allocation includes:

  • Acharya Narendra Dev College
  • Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College
  • Maharaja Agrasen College
  • Shaheed Rajguru College of Applied Sciences for Women
  • Aditi Mahavidyalaya
  • Others funded fully by the Delhi government

Funding Timeline and Context

  • Third Instalment: October 2025 – ₹108 crore
  • Emergency Fund: ₹24 crore for urgent expenses
  • Earlier Instalments: April and July 2025

A senior official from the Directorate of Higher Education (DHE) noted that the funds were released to prevent delays in salary payments, a problem that had previously led to protests by teachers. Colleges have been instructed to prioritise salary disbursements and submit a detailed report of fund utilization.

Teacher Reactions

Teachers’ associations welcomed the timely release but stressed the need for a fixed funding calendar. “We appreciate the funds coming before exams, but the uncertainty remains. Salaries should never depend on reminders,” said a teacher from an east Delhi college.

Use of Emergency Funds

The additional ₹24 crore will be used for:

  • Electricity and utilities
  • College maintenance and lab requirements
  • Pre-exam activities

The DHE has reiterated its commitment to regular support and better coordination with Delhi University, aiming to prevent delays and ensure uninterrupted academic operations.
