The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued a fresh advisory regarding the Common University Entrance Test (CUET UG 2026), providing clarity on the exam timeline, subject choices, and syllabus structure. As per the advisory, the undergraduate entrance examination is expected to be conducted in May 2026, bringing an important update for students planning admissions to central, state, and private universities across India. CUET remains one of the country’s largest undergraduate entrance examinations, with millions of candidates appearing each year, making timely updates critical for aspirants.
CUET UG 2026 Exam Date and Registration Timeline
According to the latest information shared by NTA, the CUET UG 2026 examination will be held in May 2026. Media reports suggest that the test may begin between 13 May and 15 May 2026, although the official exam schedule is yet to be notified. The online registration process for CUET UG 2026 is expected to start in the last week of February 2026 or the first week of March 2026. Candidates are advised to keep their academic documents ready and monitor official announcements to avoid missing deadlines.
CUET UG 2026 Syllabus Based on NCERT Curriculum
The NTA has confirmed that the CUET UG 2026 syllabus has already been uploaded and is available subject-wise. Each paper has clearly defined topics, allowing candidates to prepare in a structured manner. The syllabus is largely aligned with NCERT textbooks, especially for domain subjects. Subject experts have indicated that conceptual clarity will be essential, as rote memorisation alone may not be sufficient to score well in the examination.
CUET UG 2026 to Be Conducted for 37 Subjects
The CUET UG 2026 examination will cover a total of 37 subjects, including language papers, domain-specific subjects, and a general aptitude test. The examination will be conducted in 13 languages, including English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Telugu, Tamil, and Urdu. Domain subjects will span multiple streams such as Science, Commerce, and Humanities, covering areas like Accountancy, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Economics, Geography, History, Mathematics, Physics, Political Science, Computer Science, Mass Communication, and related disciplines. A General Aptitude Test will also be included, focusing on reasoning ability, general awareness, and basic numerical skills.
CUET UG 2026 Allows Selection of Only Five Subjects
One of the most significant changes introduced for CUET UG 2026 is the restriction on subject selection. Candidates will now be allowed to appear in only five subjects, a move aimed at making the examination more focused and manageable. This change is expected to help students align their subject choices more closely with their intended undergraduate programmes. The CUET UG 2026 exam will be conducted in CBT (Computer-Based Test) mode.
