Chandigarh University has launched new space research and internship programmes in collaboration with scientists from ISRO and other leading scientific institutions. The initiative aims to provide students and research scholars with hands-on exposure to space technology, satellite systems, semiconductors and emerging research domains.
Chandigarh University has launched new space research and internship programmes with the participation of scientists from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and other leading scientific institutions. The initiative is designed to strengthen space technology education and research opportunities for students and research scholars across the country.
Chandigarh University Space Research Programme 2026 with ISRO Scientists
In a major boost to space education, Chandigarh University, through its Kalpana Chawla Centre, has introduced the KCC Space Technology and Research Program 2026 along with the KCC Summer Internship Program 2026. The month-long national-level programme commenced on June 15, 2026, and will continue until July 11, 2026. The programmes bring together experts from ISRO, the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Semiconductor Laboratory (SCL), NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), and other scientific organisations. The initiative has been designed to provide participants with practical exposure to modern space technologies, satellite systems, semiconductor applications, and advanced research methodologies. Students and research scholars will receive guidance directly from scientists, engineers and domain experts working in India's rapidly expanding space ecosystem.
ISRO Experts to Mentor Students in Emerging Space Technologies
The inaugural event witnessed the participation of senior scientists and technology leaders from ISRO and partner institutions. Among the key dignitaries were Dr S. Sudhakar, Deputy Director of the U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), ISRO, and Prof. Priyadarshnam, Head and Project Director of SSPACE at IIST. Senior officials from the Semiconductor Laboratory also attended the launch programme. According to the organisers, nearly 15 leading scientists, researchers and technical experts will conduct training sessions, technical lectures, laboratory demonstrations, mentoring activities, workshops and research discussions during the programme. These sessions are expected to help participants understand current developments in space science and related technologies.
Space Technology, Artificial Intelligence and Semiconductor Research Focus Areas
The newly launched programmes will focus on several high-growth technology domains that are expected to play an important role in India's future space missions and innovation ecosystem. Experts highlighted that artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, advanced satellite applications and semiconductor innovation are likely to become crucial areas for future research and national development. These technologies are expected to support communication systems, navigation services, scientific exploration and strategic applications. Before reviewing the major learning areas, it is important to understand that the programme has been designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry-oriented research.
How will the Programme benefit Engineering Students and Research Scholars?
The newly launched initiative aims to create a stronger talent pipeline for India's growing space sector. Participants will gain access to technical training, research mentoring and interactions with professionals actively involved in national scientific projects. Before understanding the expected outcomes, it is important to note that India's space sector is witnessing increasing demand for skilled professionals across multiple technology domains. The university believes that such initiatives can encourage students to pursue careers in advanced scientific research while strengthening India's technological capabilities. Some of the key benefits expected from the programme include:
- Exposure to real-world space research projects
- Interaction with ISRO and IIST scientists
- Hands-on learning opportunities
- Research-oriented training sessions
- Understanding of satellite technologies
- Knowledge of semiconductor applications
- Insights into future space missions
- Opportunities for innovation and project development
Growing Importance of Space Research and Technology Education in India
India's space sector has expanded significantly over the last few years with increasing emphasis on indigenous technology development, satellite innovation, human spaceflight missions and private sector participation. Experts associated with the programme noted that future growth in communication, navigation, surveillance and scientific exploration will depend heavily on advancements in space-based technologies. The launch of these programmes aligns with broader efforts across the country to strengthen research infrastructure and create opportunities for students interested in science, engineering and emerging technologies. Recent collaborations between educational institutions and scientific organisations have also highlighted the growing importance of specialised training in space technology and research.
Chandigarh University Expands Focus on Advanced Technology Education
The introduction of the new space research and internship programmes reflects Chandigarh University's continued focus on emerging technology domains. The institution has recently announced several initiatives related to artificial intelligence, data science and innovation-led learning, aimed at improving research opportunities and industry readiness among students. With direct engagement from scientists, researchers and technology experts, the newly launched programmes are expected to provide valuable academic and research exposure for participants while supporting the development of future talent for India's expanding space and technology sectors.
