The Central Board of Secondary Education has released the updated deleted syllabus for Class 12 Chemistry for the 2025-26 academic session, continuing the rationalisation measures adopted in the previous years. The Board has streamlined several units to ensure students concentrate on essential chemical concepts while reducing the load of non-evaluative content. For the 2025-26 session, the CBSE curriculum maintains its focus on clarity, concept-building, and application-based learning in alignment with the National Education Policy. As part of this process, the Board has removed six full chapters from the NCERT Chemistry textbook and multiple subtopics from other units.
Six Entire Chapters Deleted for 2025-26
This year’s rationalisation retains the major content cuts implemented earlier. CBSE has confirmed that the following six complete chapters have been deleted from the syllabus:
- Solid State
- Surface Chemistry
- General Principles and Processes of Isolation of Elements
- The p-Block Elements
- Polymers
- Chemistry in Everyday Life
These deletions are significant, especially for students revising from older NCERT editions. Only ten major units will form the basis of the 70-mark theory examination, covering Physical, Inorganic, and Organic Chemistry. CBSE has advised students to refer strictly to the rationalised NCERT textbooks to avoid studying excluded material.
Updated Deleted Topics List for Chemistry 2025-26
CBSE has provided a clear list of sections removed from the Class 12 Chemistry curriculum. The updated structure ensures that preparation remains focused and aligned with board evaluation patterns.

Rationalised NCERT Content: Chapter-Wise Details
CBSE has also listed the exact pages and chapters removed from NCERT Chemistry Book Part-1 for Class 12. The following chapters are no longer part of the assessment for 2025-26:
These deletions significantly reduce the volume of theory and allow students to devote more time to high-weightage topics such as Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics, Coordination Compounds, Aldehydes and Ketones, and Biomolecules.
Why the Rationalisation Matters?
CBSE has stated that its curriculum changes aim to remove repetitive or outdated content and maintain alignment with modern scientific understanding. The 2025-26 Chemistry syllabus now emphasises ten core units, ensuring enhanced conceptual clarity and a more manageable workload. Students are strongly encouraged to cross-check the deleted syllabus before beginning revision. Many continue to rely on older books, which include several topics that will not be evaluated in the final board examination.
