CBSE Class 10 Exams 2026 to Be Held in Two Sessions, Dates Out

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced a new two-session format for the Class 10 Board exams 2026. For the first time, students will appear for exams in two phases — February 17 to March 9, 2026 for Session 1, and May 15 to June 1, 2026 for Session 2. The move is aimed at reducing exam pressure and providing an additional chance to improve scores.

Student Reactions to CBSE 2026 Two-Session Format

The decision has sparked mixed reactions among students. Many welcomed the flexibility, while some expressed concern about the prolonged preparation period.

  • Moumita, a Class 10 student from Bhubaneswar, shared: “Having two chances feels like a safety net, but the wait between two exams is nerve-wracking.”
  • Rohan, a student from Jaipur, said: “I appreciate the flexibility, but I hope the gap doesn't affect our focus.”

For students, the new format feels like both an opportunity and a challenge.

Teachers’ Perspective on Dual Session Exams

Teachers from CBSE-affiliated schools have also voiced divided opinions. Some believe the dual-exam system will benefit students who face unforeseen issues in the first session.

  • Maya Sharma, a teacher from Delhi, stated: “The two sessions will help students who miss out or underperform in the first exam.”
  • However, she also added: “The extended timeline may cause prolonged stress and affect students’ mental well-being.”

This indicates that while the system promotes fairness, it also brings challenges related to student focus and stress management.

Why CBSE Shifted to Two-Session Exams?

The CBSE and the Ministry of Education had been deliberating this move for the past few years. The key objectives include:

  • Reducing exam stress among students
  • Offering a second opportunity to improve marks
  • Bringing more flexibility to board exam preparation

The two-session format aligns with broader education reforms aimed at making assessments more student-friendly.
