CBSE Class 10 Exam 2026 will be conducted under a revised two-phase structure starting from 17 February 2026. The Central Board of Secondary Education has introduced major reforms in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The examinations will conclude by 21 May 2026 under the new framework.
CBSE Class 10 Exam 2026 Phase-Wise Schedule and Dates
The board has officially confirmed the CBSE Class 10 examination windows for both phases. The detailed subject-wise date sheet will be issued separately. The confirmed schedule is as follows:
- Phase 1: 17 February 2026 to 11 March 2026
- Phase 2: 5 May 2026 to 21 May 2026
CBSE has clarified that different subjects will be distributed across the two phases. Students must carefully check the subject allocation once the complete timetable is released.
CBSE Two-Attempt System for Class 10 Students
A major reform for 2026 is the introduction of a two-attempt system. The first attempt in February is mandatory for all students. An optional second attempt will be conducted in May 2026 for students seeking score improvement. The higher marks obtained in either attempt will be considered for the CBSE Class 10 final result. This change aims to reduce academic pressure and offer flexibility.
CBSE Exam Pattern 2026 Revised Structure
CBSE has revised the question paper format to emphasise competency-based learning. The new structure will apply to both Class 10 and Class 12 examinations. The revised weightage is as follows:
- 50 per cent competency-based questions (case studies and application-based)
- 20 per cent objective-type questions
- 30 per cent short and long answer questions
Strict sectional answering rules will apply in select subjects. In Science, answers must be written separately under Physics, Chemistry and Biology sections. In Social Science, subject-wise segregation such as History and Geography is mandatory. Answers written in incorrect sections will not be evaluated.
CBSE 2026 Eligibility Rules, Attendance and Registration
CBSE has tightened eligibility norms for 2026. Students must maintain a minimum of 75 per cent attendance to be eligible for the board exam. Internal assessment will contribute between 20 per cent and 40 per cent of total marks, depending on the subject. All candidates must complete registration through the Pariksha Sangam Portal, where each student will receive a unique APAAR ID for digital academic tracking.
CBSE Class 10 Exam-Day Guidelines and Required Documents
Students must carry mandatory documents for verification at the examination centre. Entry will be denied without proper documentation. Required documents include:
- CBSE Class 10 Admit Card 2026, issued by the school
- Original valid photo identity proof
- Permitted stationery items as per board guidelines
All examinations will be conducted in offline mode at designated centres in India and abroad. Students must report as per the time mentioned on the admit card and strictly follow all instructions issued by the invigilators. All official notifications regarding the CBSE Class 10 Exam 2026, including subject-wise date sheets and result announcements, will be released only through authorised CBSE channels.
