CBSE 2026 Board Exam Datesheet Raises Student Concerns

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) released the tentative datesheet for Class 10 and Class 12 board exams 2026 last month. Exams will begin on February 17, 2026, with Class 10 Phase 1 ending on March 9 and Class 12 concluding on April 9.

While early date release aims to help students plan, recent polls conducted indicate significant concerns among students regarding preparation time and clashes with major entrance exams like JEE Main and NEET-UG.

CBSE Class 12 Students Concerned About Preparation Gap

Around 40 lakh students are expected to appear for CBSE board exams. According to the poll:

  • 52% of Class 12 students feel the gap between the board exams and JEE/NEET is "too short."
  • 30% think there is "plenty of time."
  • 19% feel the duration is "just enough."

Teachers and parents have highlighted risks of burnout due to limited revision time. The single shift exam format (10:30 AM to 1:30 PM) compresses the schedule, increasing the potential clash with entrance exams.

"Students need more time to transition smoothly," said Sumit Jain, a teacher at a leading school chain in Noida.

Mixed Reactions for Class 10 Exam Format

For Class 10, CBSE has introduced a dual exam format: Phase 1 in February-March and an optional Phase 2 in May-June. Poll results show:

  • 44% believe it will "reduce exam stress."
  • 19% feel it "increases preparation duration."
  • 20% plan to take only the first session to avoid extended effort.
  • 15% are "still confused," awaiting clearer guidelines from CBSE.

Student Confidence Levels in CBSE 2026 Exams

The polls also indicate varied confidence among students:

  • 32% are "very confident" due to the early timetable.
  • 27% feel "not confident."
  • 20% have "yet to start preparation."

CBSE has advised students to download the tentative PDF from cbse.gov.in and create balanced study plans while awaiting final exam dates post LOC submission.

The CBSE 2026 datesheet and student feedback underscore the importance of balancing exam reforms with adequate support, ensuring students can prepare without stress while maintaining performance levels.
