WBSSC Group C, D Exams Likely in February 2026 for 8,478 Posts

The West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) is planning to conduct the Group C and Group D recruitment examinations in February 2026 for non-teaching posts in state-run schools. The tentative timeline comes amid extensive logistical planning due to the exceptionally high number of applicants. Officials have indicated that the scale of the examination process is a key factor behind the delayed schedule announcement.

WBSSC Group C, D Recruitment 2026 Timeline Update

According to commission officials, the WBSSC Group C exam and WBSSC Group D exam are unlikely to be scheduled before February 2026. While the application process concluded on December 12, 2025, the formal exam notification is expected only by mid-January 2026. Once the schedule is announced, the commission requires a minimum of 15 days to complete preparations, including centre finalisation, staff deployment, and security arrangements. This makes February the earliest feasible window for conducting the examination.

Massive Application Volume Delays WBSSC Recruitment Process

The WBSSC recruitment 2026 drive is witnessing an unprecedented response from aspirants. The commission received approximately 16 lakh applications for 8,478 Group C and Group D non-teaching posts, significantly increasing the complexity of exam planning. Before understanding the logistical challenges, it is important to look at previous examination data to assess the scale involved. For the Class IX–X teacher recruitment exam conducted on September 7, a total of 2,93,152 candidates appeared across 636 examination centres. Officials explained that the non-teaching recruitment is expected to involve an even larger operational setup, requiring additional time for coordination and infrastructure readiness.

Examination Centres and Logistics Under Review

WBSSC officials have confirmed that finalising examination centres remains a major task. Each centre must meet strict guidelines related to seating capacity, accessibility, surveillance, and administrative support. Given the high applicant count, authorities are carefully evaluating centre availability across districts to avoid overcrowding and ensure smooth conduct of the non-teaching staff recruitment exam. Adequate invigilators, technical support teams, and law enforcement coordination are also part of the planning process.

What Candidates Should Expect Next?

Candidates who applied for WBSSC Group C and Group D posts should closely monitor official updates over the coming weeks. The exam schedule, city allocation details, and further instructions are expected after mid-January 2026. Aspirants are advised to use this waiting period productively by revising the syllabus, practising mock tests, and staying updated on official announcements to avoid last-minute pressure once the exam date is confirmed.
