VIT has revised the VITEEE 2027 exam pattern, reducing the test duration to two hours and introducing sectional timers. The paper will contain 100 questions for 400 marks, with negative marking for incorrect answers. Candidates should practise timed sections and check official updates.

VITEEE 2027: Exam Pattern Revised, Duration Reduced to 2 Hours With Sectional Timers

Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) has revised the VITEEE 2027 exam pattern, introducing a shorter examination duration, fixed section-wise time limits and changes to the number of questions. The Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE) will now be conducted for 120 minutes, with 100 multiple-choice questions carrying 400 marks. The updated format also includes negative marking, making time management and answer accuracy important for candidates seeking BTech admission at VIT campuses.

According to the official VITEEE 2027 admissions website, the examination will include Mathematics or Biology, Physics, Chemistry, English and Aptitude. Candidates will receive a fixed amount of time for each section instead of managing the entire paper within one common time limit.

VITEEE 2027 Section-Wise Question Distribution

The VITEEE 2027 question paper will contain 100 questions across five sections. Mathematics or Biology will be the main subject section, depending on the examination stream selected by the candidate.

The official VIT admissions website provides the following distribution for the revised VITEEE 2027 paper pattern.

For candidates taking the Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English, Aptitude (MPCEA) combination, the first section is Mathematics. Candidates taking the Biology, Physics, Chemistry and English, Aptitude (BPCEA) combination will attempt Biology instead.

The combined English and Aptitude section contains five questions from each subject. Candidates should check the official information provided for their selected examination combination.

VITEEE 2027 Sectional Timers Introduced

One of the most important changes in the VITEEE 2027 exam pattern is the introduction of sectional timers. Instead of using the full two-hour duration freely across all subjects, candidates must complete each section within its assigned time limit.

The official schedule allocates 50 minutes to Mathematics or Biology, 30 minutes to Physics, 30 minutes to Chemistry and 10 minutes combined for English and Aptitude. This format makes it important for candidates to practise solving questions within subject-specific limits. Spending too much time on a difficult question in one section may leave less opportunity to complete the remaining questions in that section.

Candidates should practise with timed sectional tests, monitor their accuracy and become familiar with the computer-based examination format. They should also review the official instructions to understand how section navigation and submission will work during the actual test.

VITEEE 2027 Marking Scheme and Negative Marking

The revised VITEEE 2027 marking scheme awards four marks for every correct answer and deducts one mark for every incorrect answer. Unanswered questions and questions marked for review without a submitted answer receive zero marks, according to the official admissions information.

Candidates should therefore focus on both speed and accuracy while preparing for the entrance examination.

Negative marking makes random guessing riskier. Candidates should build a strategy that prioritises questions they can solve confidently, while avoiding spending excessive time on unfamiliar problems. Mock tests should be used to identify recurring mistakes, improve question selection and practise completing each section within its allotted time.
