UPSC CGSE 2027 Notification Out for 127 Posts, Apply Online

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the notification for the Combined Geo-Scientist Examination (CGSE) 2027. The recruitment covers 127 tentative vacancies in the Geological Survey of India (GSI) and Central Ground Water Board (CGWB).

The UPSC CGSE 2027 application process started on September 2, 2026. Eligible candidates can submit the UPSC Geo-Scientist application form online through the Commission’s portal until September 22, 2026, up to 6 PM.

UPSC CGSE 2027 Important Dates

The UPSC CGSE 2027 notification was issued on September 2, 2026. The online application process also began on the same date. Candidates have until September 22 to complete their applications.

The current notification is for the Preliminary Examination. Candidates who qualify in the preliminary stage will be permitted to appear for the Main Examination.

UPSC CGSE 2027 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates applying for the UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Exam 2027 must meet the prescribed educational and age requirements.

For Geologist and Assistant Geologist posts, candidates need a relevant Master's degree in subjects such as Geology, Applied Geology, Geological Science, Geochemistry, Petroleum Geosciences or related disciplines.

For Geophysicist posts, an M.Sc. in Physics, Applied Physics, Geophysics, Exploration Geophysics, Applied Geophysics or Marine Geophysics is required.

For Chemist posts, candidates need an M.Sc. in Chemistry or relevant branches of Chemistry. For Hydrogeology posts, a Master's degree in Geology, Applied Geology, Marine Geology or Hydrogeology is required.

UPSC CGSE Age Limit 2027

Candidates must be 21 to 32 years old as on January 1, 2027. They should have been born between January 2, 1995, and January 1, 2006. Age relaxation is available for eligible reserved categories and other candidates as per government rules.

UPSC CGSE 2027 Application Fee

The application fee is INR 200. Female candidates and candidates belonging to SC, ST and PwBD categories are exempted from paying the fee. OBC and EWS candidates are required to pay the prescribed fee.

UPSC CGSE 2027 Selection Process

The selection process consists of three stages:

• Preliminary Examination
• Main Examination
• Personality Test/Interview

The Preliminary Examination carries 400 marks, while the Main Examination carries 600 marks. The Personality Test carries 200 marks.

How to Apply for UPSC CGSE 2027?

Candidates can apply for the UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Examination 2027 through the online application portal. They need to create a Universal Registration Number, complete the Common Application Form and then fill out the examination-specific application.

Applicants must upload the required photograph and signature, pay the applicable fee and submit the application before September 22, 2026, at 6 PM.

UPSC CGSE 2027 Exam Centres

The UPSC CGSE Preliminary Examination will be conducted at 21 centres, including Delhi, Chandigarh, Gurugram, Patna, Jaipur, Lucknow, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Kolkata. Centre allocation will follow the first-apply-first-allot basis, subject to availability.
