UP Board Vocational Education Policy from Class 9
Under the revised policy, all students taking admission in Class 9 will be required to opt for at least one vocational subject in addition to core academic subjects. This change aims to introduce skill-based education at an earlier stage of schooling. As per UPMSP officials, the vocational subject will be studied alongside compulsory subjects such as Hindi, a second language, mathematics or home science, science, and social science. The intent is to ensure balanced academic learning combined with practical skill exposure. This move marks a shift from the existing curriculum, where vocational education was optional and introduced at later stages.
UP Board Class 10 Exam Pattern Change from 2028
The first visible impact of the policy will reflect in the UP Board Class 10 examinations from 2028. Students appearing for the High School examination that year will be assessed in 7 subjects instead of 6. Before outlining the changes, it is important to note that the additional subject will be vocational in nature and mandatory for all candidates.Key changes in UP Board Class 10 exams from 2028 include:

Similar changes will be introduced at the Intermediate level. The UP Board Class 12 examinations from 2030 will include 6 subjects instead of the existing five. This adjustment ensures continuity of vocational education throughout senior secondary schooling. Students will carry forward vocational learning introduced at the secondary level into Class 12. The subject expansion will require updates to curriculum design, assessment methods, and board examination structure over the next few years.
