UGC Flags 3 Fake Universities Again? Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued fresh public notices warning students and parents against 3 institutions operating without legal authority to award degrees. These institutions are located in Delhi, Maharashtra and Karnataka and are not recognised under the UGC Act, 1956. According to the official notices, the flagged institutions are misleading students by projecting themselves as universities or degree-awarding bodies. The UGC has reiterated that degrees awarded by such entities are invalid and not recognised for higher education or employment purposes across India.

UGC Warning on Unrecognised Universities Under UGC Act 1956

In its latest advisory, the higher education regulator clarified that institutions not listed under Section 2(f) or Section 3 of the UGC Act are not authorised to confer Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees. Students enrolling in such institutions risk wasting both time and financial resources. The Commission has repeatedly cautioned aspirants to verify the recognition status of any institution before seeking admission, especially in private or lesser-known universities claiming national or international recognition.

Institutions Declared Fake or Non-Recognised by UGC

The UGC notices specifically named 3 institutions found to be operating outside the legal framework. Each case highlights different forms of misrepresentation and regulatory violations. Before reviewing the details, students must understand that these institutions cannot offer degree programmes, whether through regular, online or distance learning modes.

National Institute of Management Solutions

Sarva Bharatiya Shiksha Peeth

Tumkur, Karnataka

Not authorised to award degrees

The UGC clarified that National Backward Krushi Vidypeeth is not recognised under any provision of the Act, despite claims made on online platforms. Similarly, the National Institute of Management Solutions has been declared a non-university and is barred from admitting students for degree programmes. The Sarva Bharatiya Shiksha Peeth reportedly ceased academic operations in 2022 and has no legal authority to confer degrees.

Why UGC Public Notices Matter for Students?

Such warnings are issued to protect students from falling prey to fake universities that operate without regulatory oversight. Degrees obtained from unrecognised institutions are not accepted by government bodies, universities, or employers. The UGC has also intensified action against institutions failing to comply with transparency norms, including mandatory disclosures under Section 13 of the UGC Act. Regular updates are released to help students make informed academic decisions.

What Students Should Check Before Admission?

Students and parents are advised to verify institutional credentials through the official UGC list of recognised universities. Any institution not appearing on the list should be treated with caution, regardless of promotional claims or advertisements.
