The Telangana government has announced a major expansion of its overseas education scholarship schemes, enabling more students from socially and economically disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue higher studies abroad.
Telangana Expands Global Scholarship Coverage
Under the revised framework, a total of 1,900 students from different reserved categories will now benefit from the state’s overseas scholarship initiative — a notable increase from the earlier count of 1,110 recipients. The Mahatma Jyothiba Phule Overseas Education Scheme, which supports students from Backward Classes (BC) and Economically Backward Classes (EBC), has been extended to cover:
- 700 BC students
- 500 students from BC-C and BC-E subcategories
- 200 students from the EBC category
This enhancement reflects the state’s commitment to providing equitable opportunities for students to gain international exposure.
Ambedkar Scheme Extended for SC and ST Students
The government has also expanded the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Overseas Education Scheme, aimed at uplifting students from Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST).
The latest revision includes:
- 500 SC students, up from 210 previously
- 200 ST students, compared to earlier 100 beneficiaries
These adjustments signify Telangana’s inclusive approach to higher education support across communities.
Financial Support and Eligibility Criteria
Eligible students can receive financial assistance up to INR 20 lakh, which covers tuition fees, visa processing, and one-way economy-class airfare.
To qualify, applicants must:
- Secure admission in a recognized international university
- Meet prescribed academic merit and income eligibility criteria
- Submit verified documentation within the official deadline
The funding aims to help meritorious students pursue postgraduate or doctoral studies abroad without financial constraints.
Government’s Vision for Educational Equity
Officials stated that this expansion is part of Telangana’s broader mission to bridge educational inequality and promote global learning exposure for underrepresented communities. Students have been encouraged to regularly visit official portals for application timelines, eligibility updates, and document verification details. This move is expected to significantly boost the representation of Telangana students in reputed global institutions while reinforcing the state’s commitment to educational empowerment.
