SSC JE 2026 notification expected in March, check eligibility, exam schedule

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is expected to release the SSC Junior Engineer (JE) 2026 notification in March 2026. This annual examination recruits candidates for Junior Engineer posts in Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering disciplines across various government ministries, departments and organisations in India. The detailed notification will provide information on eligibility criteria, application dates, selection procedure and prescribed exam pattern. Aspirants who meet the eligibility requirements should stay ready to complete the online form once the notification is published.

SSC JE 2026 eligibility criteria and qualifications

The SSC JE examination is typically open to candidates who have completed relevant engineering qualifications. While the official 2026 notification is awaited, past eligibility norms suggest that candidates should have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering OR
  • A three‑year Diploma in the respective engineering discipline
  • Candidates must meet the minimum age requirement, usually between 18 and 32 years, with age relaxations applicable for reserved categories.

Exact eligibility criteria, including age limits and educational qualifications, will be specified in the official SSC JE 2026 notification once released.

Application process and tentative schedule

The online application form for SSC JE 2026 is expected to open soon after the notification release, which is likely in March 2026, according to the SSC exam calendar. After the application process, candidates will be required to pay the examination fee within the stipulated deadline. A correction window for application edits may also be provided before the final submission of forms. Tentatively, the SSC JE Paper‑I exam could be conducted between May and June 2026, followed by Paper‑II at a later date as per the commission’s schedule. These dates are based on the SSC’s tentative exam calendar.

Selection procedure and stages

The SSC JE recruitment process usually consists of two stages:

  • Computer‑Based Examination (Paper‑I): Objective‑type questions to test engineering knowledge and aptitude
  • Computer‑Based Examination (Paper‑II): Descriptive or further advanced questions depending on the discipline selected

Candidates who qualify in Paper‑I will be shortlisted for Paper‑II, and final merit lists will be prepared based on combined performance and normalisation of marks where applicable.

What aspirants should prepare?

While awaiting the official notification, aspirants can begin preparation focusing on core engineering concepts, analytical reasoning, general awareness, mathematics and subject‑specific topics relevant to the JE syllabus. Practising previous year question papers and mock tests can help in exam readiness.
