What Are the Stages in SSC CHSL 2026 Selection Process?
The SSC CHSL recruitment process can be understood in the following order:
The table gives a quick view of the complete SSC CHSL selection process 2026. The computer and skill or typing tests are part of Tier 2, but their requirements depend on the post selected.
How Does SSC CHSL Tier 1 Selection Work?
Tier 1 is the first stage of the SSC CHSL 2026 exam. It is a computer-based objective test with four sections.
A new change in SSC CHSL 2026 is the 15-minute sectional timer. Each of the four sections gets 15 minutes. The exam has a total duration of 60 minutes. There is also a negative marking of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer.
The normalized Tier 1 score is used to decide who moves to the next stage. Separate cutoffs may apply for different groups of posts.
What Happens in SSC CHSL Tier 2?
Students who clear the required Tier 1 cutoff move to SSC CHSL Tier 2. This stage has objective sections along with a Computer Knowledge Test and a Skill Test or Typing Test, depending on the post.
Tier 2 is divided into two sessions:
- Session 1
- Mathematical Abilities
- Reasoning and General Intelligence
- English Language and Comprehension
- General Awareness
- Session 2
- Computer Knowledge Test
- Skill Test or Typing Test
The Computer Knowledge Test and Skill Test or Typing Test are qualifying in nature. Their marks are not added to the merit score, but the required test must be cleared.
Is Typing Test Required for SSC CHSL 2026?
Yes, but it depends on the post.
For LDC/JSA and other applicable posts, a Typing Test is required. For DEO posts, a Skill Test is conducted. The Skill Test for DEO posts is mandatory for those shortlisted for it.
The test is qualifying, so clearing the required standard is necessary for further selection.
How Is SSC CHSL Final Selection Done?
The SSC CHSL final merit list is prepared using the performance in Tier 2 Section I and Section II, subject to qualifying the required Computer Knowledge Test and Skill Test or Typing Test. Post preference also plays an important role.
Before the final result, SSC will ask eligible students to submit their post and department preferences through an online option form. Once submitted, the preference is treated as final and cannot be changed.
Post allocation is then based on merit, preference and the available vacancies.
What Is the SSC CHSL Application Fee 2026?
The application fee for SSC CHSL 2026 is INR 100 for candidates who are required to pay the fee. Women, SC, ST, eligible Ex-Servicemen and eligible candidates belonging to specified PwBD categories are exempt from the application fee as per SSC rules.
The online application deadline is October 7, 2026, while the last date for online fee payment is October 8, 2026.
