The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) has announced that it will implement an online evaluation system for answer sheet marking in the board exams scheduled for March 2026. The new system, based on digital scanning and on-screen evaluation, is intended to improve accuracy, transparency and result timelines.

Punjab Board to Adopt Online Evaluation System for 2026 Exams

The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) has unveiled a major reform in the assessment process for the 2026 board exams, announcing the introduction of an online answer sheet evaluation system. Under this initiative, teachers will evaluate scanned answer sheets on computers using an on-screen marking (OSM) system, moving away from traditional paper-based evaluation. PSEB is among the first state boards in India to adopt this end-to-end digital evaluation model, which is expected to bring faster processing, improved accuracy and greater transparency to the board exam assessment process.

How the Digital Evaluation System work?

The new evaluation system will digitise answer sheets using secure scanning technology. Each page of the redesigned answer sheet will feature a unique QR code for tracking and authentication. These scanned sheets will be uploaded to a centralised digital platform, where examiners will assess responses online. The system automatically calculates marks based on structured marking schemes, reducing human errors and speeding up result processing. Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains highlighted that the technology has already been tested successfully during the September 2025 supplementary examinations, where over 23,000 answer sheets were evaluated digitally with high accuracy.

PSEB 2026: Benefits for Students and Teachers

The new online evaluation system aims to benefit students by providing:

  • Faster result processing due to automated scoring and digital workflows.
  • Enhanced accuracy and transparency with standardised marking and reduced manual errors.
  • Digital record-keeping that ensures secure storage and easier access for future reference.

Teachers will also benefit from a streamlined marking interface that simplifies evaluation tasks, provides real-time monitoring and reduces the burden of manual paper handling.

PSEB 2026: Implementation and Rollout

The PSEB has completed technical and administrative preparations for the March 2026 rollout. Initially, the system will be implemented in a selected subject for the matriculation examinations, with phased expansion planned for future cycles. Boards across India are increasingly embracing digital evaluation, following steps taken by bodies like CBSE for Class 12 assessments. Students and educators can expect quicker result timelines, standardised marking and increased transparency as the board transitions to this technologically advanced evaluation framework for the 2026 board exams.
