Over 93,000 Vacancies in CAPFs, Assam Rifles: Govt Tells Rajya Sabha

The government informed the Rajya Sabha that over 93,000 posts are currently vacant in CAPFs and the Assam Rifles. Vacancy data shows the highest number of posts vacant in CISF and CRPF. The Ministry of Home Affairs stated that security forces continue to perform duties effectively despite staffing gaps.

Over 93,000 Vacancies in CAPFs, Assam Rifles: Govt Tells Rajya Sabha

The Government of India has informed the Rajya Sabha that more than 93,000 posts are vacant in Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and the Assam Rifles. The information was shared in a written reply by Nityanand Rai.

 

According to the data presented, the combined vacancies across various paramilitary forces stand at 93,139 posts. The figures include staffing gaps in several major security forces responsible for internal security, border protection, and disaster response operations.

 

CAPF Vacancy Details Shared in Parliament

The Ministry of Home Affairs provided force-wise vacancy data in response to a parliamentary query. The numbers indicate that the highest vacancies exist in the Central Industrial Security Force and the Central Reserve Police Force. The vacancy distribution across forces is listed below:

Govt Response on Impact of Vacancies

During the discussion, questions were raised about whether such large vacancies could affect law enforcement, internal security operations, and disaster response capabilities. Responding to these concerns, the Minister stated that the forces continue to perform their duties effectively. According to the government, security personnel are managing responsibilities through optimal utilisation of available resources and operational planning.

 

Rising Resignations in CAPFs in Recent Years

In response to another query in Parliament, the government also provided data regarding resignations in CAPFs over recent years. The figures show a gradual increase in resignations among personnel. The resignation numbers reported were:

  • 1,255 in 2021
  • 1,183 in 2022
  • 2,037 in 2023
  • 2,724 in 2024
  • 2,333 in 2025

The data was shared to provide an overview of staffing trends within the central armed police forces. The government maintained that despite vacancies and resignations, the forces remain capable of fulfilling their responsibilities related to national security, border management, and internal law enforcement operations.
