NMIMS CAPI 2026 Begins Tomorrow: Competency Test & PI Start

SVKM’s Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) will start the CAPI 2026 (Competency Assessment & Personal Interview) stage of the MBA admission process tomorrow, 31 January 2026. Candidates shortlisted on the basis of their NMAT scores will report to the designated NMIMS campus for the next phase of selection. The CAPI process plays a major role in merit list preparation — often carrying the largest weightage within the final selection criteria after NMAT performance.

What to Expect in the NMIMS Competency Assessment?

The competency test typically comprises around 30 multiple-choice questions to be completed within a 45-minute time frame. Sections often include Verbal Ability, Mental Ability, Managerial Ability and Quantitative Ability, aimed at evaluating analytical and decision-making skills relevant to management contexts Past candidates have described the test difficulty as easy to moderate, with some finishing well within the time limit, although perceptions vary by individual performance.

AI-Assisted Personal Interview (PI)

Following the competency test, candidates will participate in a personal interview. In recent cycles, NMIMS has included AI-assisted interaction as part of the PI process:

  • AI segment: An AI bot may ask questions based on the candidate’s Statement of Purpose (SOP) and resume.
  • Panel round: Faculty panelists typically follow up with questions based on responses and profile context.

Interviews commonly explore topics such as career goals, work experience (if any), reasons for pursuing an MBA and general awareness. Fresh graduates often face questions around current affairs or technological trends, in addition to personal motivations.

Documents and Guidelines for CAPI

Candidates attending the NMIMS CAPI process should carry:

  • Interview/call letter
  • Valid ID proof
  • Essentials such as a pen for documentation and written components.

Shortlisted candidates are advised to revise their SOPs and resumes thoroughly, as interview questions are frequently derived from these documents.

Importance of CAPI in NMIMS MBA Admissions

The CAPI stage is a critical component of the selection process for NMIMS MBA programmes, especially as the competency assessment carries significant weightage in the final merit score. Final admissions decisions consider performance across NMAT, competency test and interview, along with academic and professional credentials. Candidates should regularly check official NMIMS communication and their application dashboards for session timings, venue details and further instructions related to the 31 January 2026 CAPI schedule.
