NEET SS 2025 Round 3 Counselling: Will MCC Reduce Cutoff Percentile? Official Confirmation Awaited

The NEET SS 2025 Round 3 counselling process is likely to become a major opportunity for doctors seeking admission to super-speciality medical courses. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) is reportedly considering a reduction in the NEET SS 2025 qualifying cutoff percentile before starting another counselling round.

However, the MCC has not yet issued an official notification confirming the NEET SS cutoff reduction or announcing the NEET SS Round 3 counselling schedule. Candidates who could not secure seats in the first two rounds are therefore waiting for an official decision.

The possibility of lowering the NEET SS 2025 cutoff percentile comes amid concerns over vacant super-speciality seats. Doctors and medical aspirants have also requested an additional counselling round to ensure that available DM, MCh and DrDNB seats are utilised.

NEET SS 2025 Round 3 Counselling: Why Cutoff Reduction Is Expected

The demand for NEET SS Round 3 counselling 2025 has increased after a significant number of super-speciality seats remained vacant following the completion of two counselling rounds.

MCC had released a clear vacancy matrix for Round 2 showing 2,423 vacant seats across DM, MCh and DrDNB super-speciality courses. It had also published a virtual vacancy matrix containing thousands of additional seats that could become available depending on the movement of candidates during counselling.

After Round 2, doctors reportedly estimated that around 1,700 super-speciality seats remained vacant. The Indian Medical Association Junior Doctors Network (IMA-JDN) subsequently urged Union Health Minister J P Nadda to consider an additional round of NEET SS counselling 2025.

A reduction in the qualifying percentile could make additional candidates eligible for NEET SS Round 3 counselling, potentially helping institutions fill seats that remain vacant after the earlier rounds.

NEET SS Cutoff 2025: Current Qualifying Percentile

The NEET SS 2025 cutoff was initially fixed at the 50th percentile. Candidates who achieved the required qualifying score in their respective Super Speciality Group became eligible for the counselling process.

The qualifying marks differ across groups because the NEET SS cutoff is based on group-wise performance. The currently reported NEET SS 2025 qualifying scores are as follows.

The NEET SS cutoff percentile and the actual admission cutoff are different. The qualifying percentile determines whether a candidate can participate in counselling, while the admission cutoff depends on rank, choices, seat availability and other counselling factors.

NEET SS Round 3 Counselling 2025: Official Schedule Awaited

As of now, MCC has not officially announced the NEET SS 2025 Round 3 counselling schedule or confirmed a revised qualifying percentile. The existing MCC super-speciality counselling updates currently focus on the completed Round 2 process.

If MCC decides to reduce the NEET SS 2025 cutoff percentile, it will have to issue an official notice specifying the revised eligibility criteria. The authority would then be expected to publish the registration, choice-filling, seat allotment and reporting schedule for the additional round.

Candidates should therefore avoid relying on unofficial claims regarding the NEET SS reduced cutoff 2025 until MCC publishes a formal notification.

What Will Happen If MCC Reduces NEET SS Cutoff?

A reduction in the NEET SS cutoff percentile would allow candidates who were previously below the qualifying threshold to become eligible for counselling. Such candidates could then receive an opportunity to register and participate in the additional counselling round, subject to the conditions announced by MCC.

Importantly, a cutoff reduction does not mean that every newly eligible candidate will receive a seat. Admission will continue to depend on the candidate's NEET SS rank, available seats, choices filled and applicable counselling rules.

The reduction could nevertheless increase the pool of eligible candidates and help MCC and participating medical colleges fill vacant DM, MCh and DrDNB seats.
