The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has clarified first-year course fee payment rules for candidates allotted NBEMS-accredited seats through NEET PG Counselling 2026. According to the advisory dated October 24, candidates choosing the Float option to seek seat upgradation do not need to pay the first-year course fee while awaiting the next round. Candidates choosing Freeze must pay the fee directly to their allotted hospital.
The clarification comes as MCC Round 1 reporting runs from October 26 to November 2, 2026. Candidates should review the official advisory before completing their admission formalities.
NEET PG Counselling 2026 First-Year Fee Rules
Note: Read the official NBEMS notice and check the MCC PG counselling portal for the latest instructions.
What Do Freeze and Float Mean for Candidates?
Candidates choosing Freeze accept their allotted seat without seeking an upgrade in a subsequent round. They must pay the applicable first-year course fee directly to the allotted NBEMS-accredited hospital and complete the required joining formalities.
Candidates selecting Float remain eligible to seek an upgraded seat in a subsequent round, subject to MCC rules, eligibility and seat availability. NBEMS has clarified that these candidates do not need to pay the first-year course fee while awaiting upgradation. If they eventually freeze a seat, they must pay the fee directly to the institution they decide to join.
Choosing Float does not guarantee an upgraded seat. Candidates should follow their counselling status and the instructions issued by MCC.
Joining Instructions for NBEMS-Allotted Candidates
Candidates should download their allotment letters, prepare the required original documents and complete the admission process within the prescribed deadline. The allotted hospital must verify the documents and update the candidate's reporting and joining status on the Intra-MCC portal.
Hospitals must also verify the validity of category certificates where applicable. Failure to update joining status within the prescribed timeline may affect the seat's status in subsequent counselling rounds.
Candidates should not assume that the revised fee rule removes other reporting, eligibility or document-verification requirements. They must follow the official MCC schedule and contact their allotted hospital if clarification is required.
