The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially published the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External results, with a strong performance by candidates across subjects. The results were announced at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

NECO 2025 SSCE External Exam Results and Pass Rates

The 2025 SSCE External examination, conducted from 26 November to 13 December 2025, saw 68,166 candidates (71.63 per cent) secure five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics — an important benchmark for tertiary admission eligibility. In core subjects, performance was notably strong:

  • English Language: 73,167 candidates (78.32 per cent) obtained credit or higher.
  • Mathematics: 85,256 candidates (91.35 per cent) achieved credit or above.

When excluding the requirement for both English and Mathematics, 82,082 candidates (86.26 per cent) achieved five credits or more in any subjects.

Registration and Examination Details

A total of 96,979 candidates registered for the SSCE External exam, with 95,160 candidates sitting for the tests across 16 subjects. The marking exercise was conducted between 5 January and 21 January 2026, and results were released approximately 52 days after the final written paper.

Examination Malpractice Statistics and Sanctions

While the overall performance reflected solid outcomes, NECO reported a notable rise in examination malpractice. 9,016 candidates were booked for various infractions this year — representing a 31.7 per cent increase compared to 2024 cases. As part of disciplinary measures:

  • Five supervisors have been recommended for blacklisting for facilitating malpractice.
  • Four examination centres were recommended for de-recognition due to involvement in whole-centre malpractice.

NECO emphasised its commitment to preserving the integrity of its assessment processes and called for continued adherence to examination protocols.

How Results Impact Admissions?

The SSCE External result provides an alternative qualification route for candidates aiming to gain admission into universities and other tertiary institutions both within Nigeria and abroad. Achieving five credits, including English and Mathematics, can significantly improve prospects for higher education placement. Candidates can access their results online using their exam registration numbers via the official NECO portal.
