The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) organized a comprehensive workshop on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and Global Citizenship Education (GCED), reinforcing the need for long-term transformation in classrooms. The initiative aligns with NEP 2020 and SDG 4.7, aiming to create inclusive, sustainable, and globally aware learning environments.
NCERT workshop Expert-Led Sessions on Transformative Pedagogy
The first day of the workshop featured orientation by Prof. Ashita Raveendran, highlighting the urgent need for education that adapts to a rapidly changing world. Sessions by Prof. Sarmishta Sarma (Asian Business School), Dr. David Lal (IIT Guwahati), and Dr. P.D. Subhash (NCERT) provided participants with:
- Conceptual clarity on ESD and GCED principles
- Pedagogical frameworks for classroom implementation
- Practical strategies addressing cognitive, socio-emotional, and behavioral development
These sessions emphasized actionable approaches to nurturing students’ social responsibility, environmental awareness, and global competence.
NCERT workshop Collaborative Engagement and Capacity Building
Participants included SCERT officials, DIET faculty, examiners, and school teachers, who engaged in collaborative discussions to exchange best practices and innovative teaching strategies. Activities encouraged active participation and problem-solving to integrate sustainable and global education effectively into daily learning processes.
NCERT’s Commitment to Globally Competent Citizens
Coordinated by Prof. Ashita Raveendran and Dr. P.D. Subhash of the Professional Management Division, NCERT, New Delhi, the initiative underscores NCERT’s commitment to preparing students as socially responsible, environmentally conscious, and globally competent citizens. The program reinforces the council’s strategic vision of embedding ESD and GCED as a sustained journey rather than a one-time intervention
