NCERT, Delhi Police Seize 32,000 Pirated NCERT Textbooks in Ghaziabad

NCERT, in coordination with the Crime Branch of Delhi Police, has taken strict action against the illegal printing of NCERT textbooks. The enforcement drive led to the seizure of a large number of pirated books from an unauthorised printing unit in Uttar Pradesh.

The operation highlights NCERT’s continued efforts to protect the integrity of its academic content and ensure students receive authentic and accurate study material.

Delhi Police Crime Branch Raid on Illegal NCERT Printing Unit

Based on specific intelligence inputs, the Crime Branch of Delhi Police conducted a raid at a printing facility located in Village Jawli, Loni, Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh). During the operation, officials recovered around 32,000 pirated NCERT textbooks covering multiple classes and subjects.

The seized material indicated large-scale unauthorised printing and distribution. The action was taken to curb the circulation of counterfeit textbooks in the education market.

Printing Machines and Materials Seized During Operation

Along with the pirated textbooks, the police also recovered equipment used for illegal printing. These items confirmed that the premises were being used for unauthorised commercial activity. The seized materials included:

  • Two printing machines
  • Aluminium printing plates
  • Paper rolls
  • Printing ink

Officials stated that the presence of full-scale printing infrastructure pointed to systematic production of counterfeit NCERT textbooks.

Case Registered Under Copyright Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita

The enforcement action was linked to an earlier case registered by the Delhi Police Crime Branch in November 2025. The case was filed under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Copyright Act, 1957. The investigation is aimed at identifying those involved in the illegal printing, supply chain, and distribution of pirated educational material.

NCERT Officials Assisted in Verification Process

Officials from NCERT’s Publication Division were present during the raid and seizure proceedings. They provided technical assistance to the police for the identification and verification of the pirated textbooks.

NCERT clarified that unauthorised printing, sale, or distribution of its textbooks is a punishable offence under existing laws.

NCERT Advisory to Students and Book Buyers

NCERT stated that the circulation of pirated textbooks adversely affects students and the education system. Such books often contain incorrect, incomplete, or substandard content that can mislead learners.

The council has advised the public to purchase NCERT textbooks only from authorised sellers and official outlets. Citizens have also been encouraged to report suspected cases of textbook piracy to NCERT or local law enforcement authorities.
