Mumbai University B.E. Programme With One-Year Apprenticeship

The University of Mumbai has launched the Apprenticeship Embedded B.E. Degree Programme under its Faculty of Science and Technology. The programme is designed to provide engineering students with practical industry exposure while they continue towards their undergraduate degree.

Under this route, selected students will undertake apprenticeship training during the seventh and eighth semesters. They will work in an industry environment and gain exposure to engineering projects, workplace operations and professional practices.

Students must complete at least 1,260 hours of practical training. On successful completion, they will receive 42 academic credits, which will count towards their B.E. degree requirements.

Only 15% of Final-Year Students Can Opt for the Programme

Mumbai University has limited participation in the apprenticeship-based B.E. programme. A maximum of 15% of final-year B.E. students can opt for this route.

Students must have secured a minimum 6.75 CGPA by the end of the fifth semester. Selection will be based on merit, with preference given to students with higher CGPAs.

Students pursuing Honours, Minor or Honours with Research programmes will not be eligible to choose the apprenticeship-based B.E. pathway.

Programme Aligned With NEP 2020 and AICTE Guidelines

The initiative has been introduced to reduce the gap between classroom learning and industry requirements. It follows the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and guidelines issued by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

The programme will allow students to apply engineering concepts in real workplace situations and gain professional exposure before completing their degree.
