Early preparations completed for upcoming academic session
The Kerala government has completed early preparations for the 2026-27 academic year with around 68 lakh textbooks already printed. The announcement was made by Kerala General Education Minister V Sivankutty, who said that the state is ensuring timely availability of learning materials before the start of the next academic session. According to the minister, nearly 3.5 crore textbooks will be printed in total for the first volume of the academic year, out of which a significant portion has already been prepared. Authorities completed textbook indenting in the first week of December 2025, while printing orders were issued later that month to expedite the process.
Rs 111 crore approved for printing and paper procurement
The Kerala government granted administrative approval of Rs 111 crore in September 2025 for purchasing paper required for printing textbooks. The move aims to ensure uninterrupted supply and distribution of study materials to students across the state. Officials also confirmed that steps are being taken to distribute textbooks to students before schools close for the current academic year. Along with textbooks, the government plans to distribute free handloom uniforms to over eight lakh students studying in government and aided schools. The state-level distribution of textbooks and uniforms is scheduled to be inaugurated on February 13 by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at St Mary’s School.

The Kerala education department has also finalised the timetable for public board examinations. The Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC), Technical High School Leaving Certificate (THSLC), and Art High School Leaving Certificate (AHSLC) examinations will begin from March 5, 2026. To familiarise students with revised question patterns, special academic programmes have also been launched through the Kite Victors educational channel. Education officials said these initiatives aim to improve student preparedness and eliminate concerns related to syllabus changes. The Kerala government stated that early completion of textbook printing and exam schedule finalisation will help schools and students transition smoothly into the next academic year.
