The Karnataka High Court has supported the Central Board of Secondary Education’s decision to cancel a student’s board examination after the candidate carried a mobile phone inside the examination hall. The incident has once again highlighted the strict enforcement of CBSE board exam guidelines 2026.
According to reports, the student approached the court seeking relief after the examination was cancelled on the grounds of using unfair means during the exam.
Karnataka High Court Verdict on CBSE Exam Rule Violation
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru and Justice C M Poonacha examined the case and upheld the decision taken by the CBSE board.
The student had argued that the mobile phone was not used during the examination, and therefore the cancellation of the exam was an excessive punishment. However, the court observed that the candidate had violated the exam rules by bringing an electronic device into the examination hall.
The bench noted that the board had already issued clear instructions prohibiting electronic devices during examinations, and candidates are required to strictly follow these guidelines.

While delivering the verdict, the court emphasized the importance of maintaining fairness and integrity in the examination system.
