The JEE Main 2026 Session 1 exam is scheduled in two shifts daily across multiple days from 21 to 30 January 2026. Candidates must reach the examination centre well before the reporting time to complete entry formalities and security checks.Reporting Time Details:

  • Shift 1: Report between 7:00 AM and 8:30 AM
  • Shift 2: Report between 1:00 PM and 2:30 PM
  • Last Entry Allowed: 8:30 AM (Shift 1) and 2:30 PM (Shift 2)
  • Exam Time: 9:00 AM–12:00 PM (Shift 1) and 3:00 PM–6:00 PM (Shift 2)

Candidates must not enter the exam hall after the gates close, even if they arrive a few minutes late.

 

Dress Code Guidelines for JEE Main 2026

To ensure smooth security checks and fairness, the NTA has specified a dress code that all candidates must follow on the exam day. Metallic items and accessories that may hinder frisking or security procedures are prohibited.

 

Dress Code for Male Candidates

  • Avoid clothes with large buttons or metal items such as belts.
  • Head coverings like caps or mufflers are not permitted.
  • Jewellery or accessories like rings, bracelets or goggles should not be worn.
  • Comfortable jeans are allowed, but avoid thick-soled shoes.

 

Dress Code for Female Candidates

  • Light, comfortable clothes are recommended.
  • Stoles, dupattas and heavy jewellery (earrings, nose pins, chains, etc.) are not permitted.
  • Clothes with metallic parts and thick-soled footwear are discouraged.

Following the dress code helps reduce delays during security screening at the exam centre.

 

Documents and Exam Day Instructions

Along with the dress code, candidates must carry specific documents to the examination centre to gain entry. The most crucial items include the printed JEE Main admit card and a valid photo ID proof such as Aadhaar Card, Passport or Voter ID.

 

Key Instructions for Exam Day

  • Reach the exam centre earlier than the reporting time to complete biometric and document verification.
  • Carry passport-size photographs as per specifications.
  • Do not bring electronic devices such as mobile phones, calculators or smartwatches.
  • Ensure all details on the admit card match your photo and personal information.

Candidates wearing religious attire, such as turbans or hijabs, should plan to arrive earlier for additional checks.
