The Indian Institute of Technology Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation, in collaboration with the Union Education Ministry’s SWAYAM Plus platform, will launch a free Artificial Intelligence training programme for rural school teachers on 5 February 2026.
Designed for educators teaching Classes I to XII, the “AI for Educators – K12 Teachers” certification course aims to help teachers integrate AI tools and methodologies into classroom teaching, assessment and student engagement.
Programme Structure and Objectives
The training spans 40 hours and will be delivered online, covering practical modules tailored to real classroom scenarios. The curriculum includes topics such as:
- Generative AI tools and prompt engineering
- AI-based lesson planning and storytelling
- Assessment methods using AI
- AR/VR-enabled visualisation and student engagement
- Inclusive education strategies and blended learning platforms
This structure is intended to enhance teachers’ ability to use AI meaningfully to support student learning outcomes while promoting responsible use of technology.
Certification and Registration Details
A virtual MCQ-based assessment will be conducted at the end of the course, and teachers who successfully complete the programme will receive a certification from IITM Pravartak. Importantly, the certification fee will be waived for the first 500 rural school teachers who finish the training and pass the assessment. Registration for the programme is open until 31 January 2026, and interested teachers must apply before the deadline to secure a place in this initiative.
Empowering Rural Educators With AI Skills
The launch of this course reflects ongoing efforts to bridge the digital and pedagogical divide in India’s education sector by empowering rural teachers with modern technological skills. Providing hands-on exposure to AI-enabled teaching tools is expected to improve teaching quality, student engagement, and learning outcomes in classrooms that traditionally lack access to advanced educational resources. With the growing importance of artificial intelligence in education and the workplace, this initiative may help rural teachers become more confident and future-ready in adopting AI responsibly within school environments.
