IIT Delhi launches its first Sonipat campus academic programme, a one-year PG Diploma in Solar Systems and Management for ISA-nominated international fellows from eight countries.
The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has launched its first academic programme at the Sonipat campus, introducing a one-year Postgraduate Diploma in Solar Systems and Management. The inaugural class of the programme began on September 3, 2026.
The IIT Delhi PG Diploma in Solar Systems and Management has been launched by the institute’s Department of Energy Science and Engineering (DESE) in collaboration with the International Solar Alliance (ISA) and INES – Institut National de l’Energie Solaire, France. The programme is sponsored by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
The inaugural batch comprises nine international fellows from eight countries. The programme is designed to provide specialised training in solar technology and its applications, with a focus on developing professionals who can support solar-energy deployment across ISA member countries.
IIT Delhi PG Diploma in Solar Systems and Management: Key Details
The new IIT Delhi Solar Systems and Management PG Diploma is a one-year programme focused on practical and academic training in solar energy. The programme is being conducted at the IIT Delhi Sonipat campus and marks the beginning of physical teaching activities at the campus.
The key details of the IIT Delhi PG Diploma 2026 are given below:
The programme is intended for ISA-nominated international fellows, rather than being announced as a general open-admission programme for all applicants. Participants will receive training from IIT Delhi faculty, academic experts and industry professionals.
IIT Delhi Solar Diploma Programme: What Will Students Learn?
The PG Diploma in Solar Systems and Management has been designed as a hands-on programme covering solar technology and its applications. The broader training initiative focuses on areas such as solar systems, power markets, policy, project management, testing and certification.
Through the programme, fellows will develop technical and managerial capabilities needed to contribute to the expansion of solar-energy infrastructure. The initiative is particularly focused on strengthening expertise in countries that are part of the International Solar Alliance.
According to IIT Delhi, the programme is part of a wider capacity-building effort aimed at supporting renewable-energy education, training and human-resource development globally.
IIT Delhi PG Diploma Includes Europe Internship
One of the major features of the IIT Delhi Solar Systems PG Diploma is an international internship opportunity. After completing the one-year programme, the fellows will undertake a one-month internship in Europe focused on applied solar technologies.
Following the internship, the fellows are expected to return to their respective countries and work with Solar Technology Application Resource Centres (STAR-C). These centres support ISA member countries by providing technical skills, infrastructure and an ecosystem for innovation in solar energy.
The initiative is therefore not limited to classroom learning. It combines academic instruction, practical exposure, international training and subsequent capacity building in the fellows’ home countries.
IIT Delhi Solar Systems and Management Course: International Collaboration
The programme has been developed through collaboration between IIT Delhi, International Solar Alliance and INES France. The International Solar Alliance has more than 120 member countries, and the programme is intended to help strengthen solar-energy capacity across these countries.
The collaboration also reflects the increasing focus on specialised education in renewable energy, particularly solar power. By combining IIT Delhi's academic expertise with international solar-energy institutions, the programme aims to create trained professionals who can transfer knowledge and skills to their respective countries.
The IIT Delhi Solar Systems and Management course is consequently being positioned as part of a broader global effort to accelerate the adoption of solar technology and develop skilled human resources for the renewable-energy sector.
