GATE Application Form 2027: Registration Date Soon, Check Documents to Keep Ready Before GOAPS Opens

The GATE Application Form 2027 registration date is awaited as IIT Madras has not yet announced the revised date for opening the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS). Candidates preparing to appear for the GATE 2027 examination should keep the required documents and registration details ready before the application window opens.

The registration was earlier scheduled to begin on August 27, 2026. However, the application process has not started and the official GATE 2027 website currently displays the registration opening date as “TBA”. IIT Madras is expected to announce the revised GATE 2027 registration date soon.

Candidates should use this waiting period to create or update their verified DigiLocker account and keep the required documents ready. DigiLocker registration is mandatory for Indian nationals applying for GATE 2027.

GATE 2027 Registration Date

The GATE 2027 registration date has not been announced yet. The official schedule initially mentioned August 14 as the opening date, which was subsequently revised to August 27. The August 27 date has now also been replaced with “TBA” on the official website.

The regular GATE 2027 registration last date is September 27, 2026, while candidates will be able to submit applications with a late fee until October 5, 2026, according to the current official schedule.

Candidates should note that these dates are subject to the final schedule announced by IIT Madras after the registration opening date is confirmed.

GATE 2027 Documents Required

Candidates should keep all documents ready before the GATE application form 2027 link becomes active. The official requirements include a good-quality photograph, signature and scanned copy of a valid photo identity document. Category and disability certificates are also required wherever applicable.

GATE 2027 DigiLocker Mandatory

One of the important changes in GATE 2027 registration is the mandatory use of DigiLocker for Indian nationals. According to IIT Madras, details such as the candidate's name, date of birth, mobile number, email ID, profile picture, address and verified ID card number will be fetched from DigiLocker during registration.

Candidates should therefore create or update their verified DigiLocker account before the GATE application process begins. Academic marksheets do not need to be uploaded to DigiLocker for GATE 2027 registration.

GATE 2027 Photograph and Signature Requirements

Candidates should also prepare their photograph and signature according to the prescribed specifications. The official GATE 2027 photograph requirements state that the photograph should be a good-quality colour passport-size image measuring 3.5 cm × 4.5 cm, with the candidate's face covering around 60–70% of the photograph. The background should be white.

A candidate's photograph submitted during registration will also appear on the GATE admit card and scorecard. Therefore, candidates should upload an appropriate and clear photograph while filling the GATE application form 2027.

GATE 2027 Live Photo Requirement

Candidates should also be prepared for the GATE 2027 live photo requirement. IIT Madras has stated that a live photograph may be captured during registration. Candidates can therefore use a computer with a webcam or a mobile phone with a 5 MP camera for this purpose.

Applicants should ensure that the device being used for registration has a working camera and stable internet connection.

GATE 2027 Eligibility

Candidates currently studying in the third year or higher of an undergraduate programme, or those who have completed an approved degree in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts or Humanities, are eligible to appear for GATE 2027, subject to the applicable conditions.

There is no age limit for appearing in GATE 2027. Candidates can also appear for the examination multiple times.
