GATE 2026 Exam Schedule: Dates and Sessions
The GATE 2026 examination is set to take place on 7, 8, 14 and 15 February 2026, with two shifts on each day, aimed at managing the large number of subjects and candidates. Morning and afternoon sessions are scheduled as follows:
All sessions are conducted in Indian Standard Time (IST) and the computer-based test is three hours long for each paper.
Branch-Wise GATE 2026 Dates and Shift Allocation
IIT Guwahati’s schedule allocates different subjects and branches to appropriate dates and sessions to avoid conflict and maximise efficiency in examination delivery:
Timing Guidelines and Exam Day Instructions
For each session, candidates must report to their allotted exam centre well before the reporting time, generally 40 minutes prior to the start of the shift, to complete security and identity checks without delay. Each test paper runs for three hours and candidates are permitted to log in 20 minutes before the scheduled start. Entry is not allowed after 30 minutes from the shift commencement. Admit cards for GATE 2026 contain exact exam dates, shift details, centre addresses and reporting times that candidates must verify before attending the examination. Bringing a printed copy of the admit card and a valid photo identity document is mandatory for entry into test centres.
Preparing for GATE 2026
Given the spread of exam dates and multiple shifts, aspirants are advised to plan their revision strategy around their scheduled session and account for any logistical needs, such as travel to the exam city. Understanding the branch-wise schedule and shift timing helps candidates avoid confusion on exam day and arrive at centres well in advance, which can improve focus and performance. Overall, the GATE 2026 schedule provides clear direction for candidates appearing across various disciplines, enabling focused preparation and smooth execution of the examination process.
