The GATE 2026 Computer Science and Engineering exam analysis for both shifts has been released based on candidate feedback. The paper was rated moderate overall, with conceptual and calculation-based questions across core topics.

GATE 2026 CSE Exam Analysis for Shift 1 and Shift 2 Released

Engineering (CSE) has concluded in two shifts. Based on feedback from candidates, the overall difficulty level of the paper was assessed as moderate to moderately difficult, with an emphasis on conceptual understanding and problem-solving skills.

 

GATE 2026 CSE Shift 2 Paper Analysis

The CSE Shift 2 examination, conducted from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm, was described as moderate to tough by several candidates. A few questions were reported as tricky and lengthy, though many found the paper manageable. The General Aptitude section was rated easy to moderate, consisting mainly of direct and logic-based questions. Subject sections included a balanced mix of multiple-choice, multiple-select (MSQs), and numerical answer type (NAT) questions.

 

GATE 2026 CSE Shift 1 Paper Analysis

The Shift 1 exam, held from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, was considered moderately difficult. Candidates reported that most questions required a strong grasp of concepts rather than formula-based application. The Engineering Mathematics and General Aptitude sections were of moderate difficulty, while the core Computer Science section contained several lengthy analytical questions. A higher number of MSQs and NAT questions were observed, with comparatively fewer questions from Computer Networks.

Based on memory-based responses, questions across both shifts covered the following areas:

GATE 2026 CSE Expected Cut-Off

Based on initial reactions and exam difficulty, candidates expect the GATE 2026 CSE qualifying cut-off for the General category to fall between 32 and 36 marks. The official cut-off will be announced along with the final result.

 

GATE 2026 Answer Key and Result Dates

The GATE 2026 provisional answer key is expected to be released by the last week of February 2026. Candidates will be allowed to submit objections by paying INR 500 per question within the stipulated challenge window. The GATE 2026 result will be declared on 19 March 2026, based on the final answer key. Qualified candidates will be able to download their GATE scorecards from 27 March 2026 through the GOAPS portal.
