The Central Board of Secondary Education has released the guidelines on the minimum required attendance for the board students on the CBSE official website. As per the notice, CBSE has mentioned that the students who are appearing for the Class 10th and 12th boards from now onwards must have a minimum 75% attendance. Only students who meet the required attendance percentage will be considered eligible for the board examinations. The students who fail to meet the required eligibility criteria may face consequences in taking the board exams.
The 25 per cent relaxation is given to students for medical and other emergencies. However, the CBSE has stated that students are advised to take leave by submitting all the required documents to the school office. Students must inform the school of the reason for their absence from school on a prior basis. If any students take a leave without notifying the school or without submitting the required documents, that student is considered to be a non-attending and dummy student.
If the student is regularly missing school, then it's the responsibility of the parents to write an application stating the reason for the student’s absence.
The CBSE stated that maintaining attendance statistics of students is not only a required criterion for appearing in board exams, but also fosters a sense of discipline and decorum among students.
