The CBSE is set to release the updated curriculum for Classes IX and X for the academic year 2026-27, emphasizing competency-based education and holistic development.

CBSE to Unveil New Curriculum for Classes IX and X

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is poised to unveil the revised curriculum for Classes IX and X, marking a significant advancement in educational guidelines for the academic year 2026-27. This initiative follows the earlier release of the curriculum for Classes XI and XII on April 1, 2026, as part of a systematic rollout aimed at enhancing the educational framework for affiliated schools.

According to an official announcement from the CBSE, the curriculum for Classes IX and X is scheduled for release on April 2, 2026. This update is crucial as it aligns with the implementation of the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-2023), which will be introduced in Class IX from the upcoming academic year. The NCF-2023 emphasizes a modernized approach to education, focusing on competency-based learning and experiential education.

Webinar for Understanding Changes

To aid educators and institutions in grasping the modifications, the CBSE will conduct a special webinar that will delve into the revised scheme of studies and highlight key updates from the Secondary Curriculum Part-I 2026-27 document for Classes IX and X. This informative session is set to take place at the CBSE Headquarters auditorium located in the Integrated Office Complex, Sector-23, Dwarka, starting at 3:00 PM. Additionally, the webinar will be streamed live, allowing schools from various regions to participate.

Accessing the Curriculum Documents

The complete curriculum documents for Classes IX to XII will be accessible on the CBSE Academic Portal under the section titled ‘Curriculum 2026-27’. Schools are instructed to download these documents, which include introductory sections, and distribute them among teachers and students in Classes IX and X for immediate reference. Educational institutions are also encouraged to make necessary preparations to implement these changes in accordance with the guidelines outlined in the curriculum documents.

Focus on Updated Learning Approaches

The revised curriculum is designed to resonate with the principles and vision set forth in the NCF-2023. It aims to foster a learning environment that prioritizes:

  • Competency-based education
  • Experiential learning
  • Flexibility in subject choices
  • Holistic development of students

It is imperative for schools to adhere strictly to the prescribed curriculum for Classes IX and X, as well as to the guidelines provided in the introductory sections and individual subjects. This adherence will ensure that students receive a comprehensive and well-rounded educational experience.

Guidelines for Schools and Stakeholders

Heads of educational institutions are urged to inform teachers about the curriculum changes and to organize special Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) aimed at enlightening parents and students in Classes IX and X regarding the key features of the updated curriculum. Dr. Praggya M. Singh, Professor and Director (Academics), emphasized the importance of effective implementation of these curriculum changes from the start of the academic session 2026-27, stating, "The schools must ensure effective implementation of the curriculum change from the beginning of the academic session 2026-27."
