CBSE has revised the scheme of studies for students who will appear for Class 10 board exams in 2028. Three curricular components will be excluded for the specified batch. The circular also clarifies compulsory subjects, vocational education assessment and passing requirements.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has revised the Class 10 exam pattern and scheme of studies for the 2028 board examinations, bringing changes to the curriculum and assessment requirements for students currently studying in Class 9 during the 2026–27 academic session. The board issued Circular No. Acad-70/2026 on October 29, 2026, clarifying the subjects students must study and those that will be assessed through board examinations or school-based internal assessment.
Under the CBSE class 10 examination revised scheme, three curricular components will not be included for the specified batch: Individuals in Society, the Computational Thinking (CT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) modules, and Environmental Education. CBSE Class 10 Exam Pattern 2028 Highlights
The revised scheme applies to students currently in Class 9 in 2026–27 who will progress to Class 10 in 2027–28.

Which Subjects Will Be Compulsory for CBSE Class 10 Board Exams 2028?
According to the revised scheme, students will study nine compulsory curricular subjects. Five subjects will be assessed through the Class 10 board examination.
Students may also choose an optional subject. Depending on the subject selected, they may need to appear for an additional board examination.
CBSE Class 10 Vocational Education Rules for 2028
Vocational education will remain a compulsory curricular area for students covered by the revised scheme. CBSE has provided two routes to fulfil this requirement: Kaushal Vikas or one of the 22 notified skill subjects.
The assessment method depends on the option selected.
The notified skill subjects include Retail, Information Technology, Automotive, Banking and Insurance, Healthcare, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Electronics and Hardware, and Design Thinking and Innovation, among others.
