The Central Board of Secondary Education is hosting a live webcast today to outline key guidelines for the conduct of the Board Examinations 2026 and explain the implementation of the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system. The annual session aims to brief principals, teachers, and officials on updated policies and new initiatives to ensure smooth and transparent examinations. The webcast is being streamed on CBSE’s official YouTube channel.
Board Exams 2026: Schedule and Scale
CBSE will conduct the Secondary and Senior Secondary Board Examinations 2026 from February 17.
- Class 10 exams begin with Mathematics (Standard and Basic) and conclude on March 10.
- Class 12 exams commence with Biotechnology, Entrepreneurship, Shorthand (English), and Shorthand (Hindi), ending on April 9.
This year, nearly 46 lakh students from over 31,000 affiliated schools in India and 26 countries abroad will appear for the exams across 8,074 centres.
Key Initiatives Introduced for 2026
To strengthen the examination and evaluation process, CBSE has introduced three major reforms:
- Second Board Examination for Class 10
- On-Screen Marking (OSM) for Class 12
- Division of Science and Social Studies question papers for Class 10
The shift to digital evaluation for Class 12 is aimed at improving efficiency, reducing errors, and speeding up result processing.
Why CBSE Is Moving to On-Screen Marking?
CBSE highlighted multiple benefits of digital evaluation:
- Faster assessment with wider teacher participation
- Automatic calculation of marks, eliminating totalling errors
- Reduced manual intervention and verification workload
- No transportation of physical answer books
- Teachers can evaluate from their own schools
- Greater global participation from affiliated schools
- Environment-friendly and sustainable evaluation practices
Webinar Objectives and Official Remarks
The webinar focuses on ensuring the safe and smooth conduct of examinations, objective evaluation, effective implementation of new initiatives, and confidence-building among stakeholders. CBSE Controller of Examinations Sanyam Bhardwaj stated, “This examination will test our knowledge, readiness, responsiveness and decisions.”The webcast began with a keynote address by CBSE Chairperson Rahul Singh (IAS).
Mandatory Participation and School Reporting
CBSE has directed all affiliated schools to ensure attendance of teachers of Classes 9 to 12 and staff involved in examination and evaluation work. Schools must upload a geotagged photograph of participants and the total number of attendees on the ASAR app. Additionally, schools have been instructed to upload practical, project, and internal assessment marks for Classes 10 and 12 by February 14, 2026. The Board expects that the measures discussed during the live session will ensure seamless coordination and successful conduct of the CBSE Board Exams 2026.
