CBSE has directed affiliated schools to relieve teachers for evaluation of Class 10 and 12 board exam answer sheets for 2026. Class 12 answer books will be assessed through On-Screen Marking (OSM) for the first time, while Class 10 evaluation will remain offline. The board exams will begin from February 17, 2026, with stricter timelines and updated SOPs for evaluators.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has instructed principals and managements of affiliated schools to relieve teachers for the evaluation of CBSE Class 10 and Class 12 board exam answer scripts 2026. The directive comes ahead of the board examinations scheduled to begin from February 17, 2026. The board has also asked evaluators to strictly follow updated Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) under the revised evaluation scheme.
Evaluation Timeline and Guidelines
CBSE has directed that:
- Fewer answer scripts be assigned per evaluator to ensure quality assessment.
- Evaluation be completed within 8–10 days, reduced from the earlier 10–12 day window.
- Schools update teacher data for Classes 10 and 12 on the OASIS portal for On-Screen Marking (OSM).
The board has also planned capacity-building programmes and released short instructional videos to guide evaluators. Strict action will be taken against schools that fail to comply with the board’s directives. CBSE has warned that results of non-compliant schools may not be declared.
On-Screen Marking Introduced for Class 12
For the first time, CBSE will implement On-Screen Marking (OSM) for Class 12 answer books in 2026. Under this system, answer sheets will be evaluated digitally to ensure transparency and reduce errors, particularly in mark totaling. However, Class 10 answer scripts will continue to be evaluated in physical mode.
